Italian supercar maker Lamborghini is looking to dip its toes into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The new project, called the Space Key, is a work that was created by a lone artist. The unique NFT is a tangible item which connects to a unique digital artwork that can be accessed via a QR code that is located on the back. The project is limited and will be auctioned off within the next few weeks.

The Space Key is made of carbon composite material that Lamborghini, as part a research project in the year 2019 sent to the International Space Station. The carbon fiber was then created into a distinctive artwork when it returned to Earth. The physical component is imprinted with an NFT serial number that is linked to the corresponding digital artwork via an QR code on the back.

For those who aren't in the know, NFTs are distinct identifiers recorded on a distributed blockchain ledger, and linked to an digital asset such as a photo, video or music. This lets owners ensure the authenticity, scarcity and trackability of their tokens over the internet.

Working with NFT PRO, a white-label NFT solution for businesses, Lamborghini is taking this unique approach to art to the next level. In the coming weeks Lamborghini will release details about the exciting project including the name of the unknown artist as well as a timeline for the auction.

The physical component of Space Key

After a series of social media posts that teased some kind of space-themed item, the Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini has entered the world of non-fungible (NFT) tokens with an exclusive project called Space Key. The NFT was created in collaboration with a mysterious artist and will go on auction in a few short weeks. At its heart is a piece of high-tech carbon fiber composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2019 as part of an ongoing research project. The carbon fiber has been 3D printed to form the basis of each Space Key, which is linked with an exclusive, digital artwork via the QR code that is on its backside. Only  The Keylab  were produced.

NFTs are unique identifications that can be recorded in distributed ledgers such as the Blockchain, and linked to digital assets like pictures. It's a hot subject among people with more money than common sense. It was only an issue of time before automakers decided to take advantage of.

Space Key is made up of five parts. It was created using a carbon fiber composite that was sent to the ISS in the year 2019. Each NFT will be equipped with a QR code that links it to an exclusive digital artwork created by the same artist. In the coming weeks and days, more information will be revealed including the name and digital artwork of the artist and how to purchase one of the five Space Keys.

The digital artwork

After months of social media posts that hinted at it, luxury car manufacturer Lamborghini has finally announced its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. The Space Key is a collection of five physical items that allows you to access an exclusive digital work by the yet to be identified artist. Developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm), the  collector's piece is limited to just five units and will be auctioned off shortly.

Each Space Key contains a block comprised of the most advanced carbon-fire composite material, which was shipped to the International Space Station as part of a research project for 2019. After returning to Earth it was engraved with the QR code which links it to the digital component of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that occurs at different times when the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Each of the five images was captured by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.

Oefner utilized an inflatable camera with a lens to capture the individual images, which were later assembled into the final photograph. The result is an amazing out of the world image that reveals the beauty of Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic picture of the car rising away from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, but the exact date and time of the event hasn't been revealed yet.
